Return to Claims Reporting FORM
Claims Reporting PolicyClaims are handled directly between the shipper or consignee and that carrier. FMI is not involved in the actual claims process and has no influence in the carrier's claim decision.Once a completed claim form is received by the carrier, they will respond by assigning a claim number. The carrier may make arrangements for a 3rd party inspection company to come out and document a damage appraisal. The only parties that can file a claim are the shipper or the consignee. The claim must be filed with the originating carrier, which will be the determining party in the claim process. The claimant may only file for loss or damage on the product that was shipped. The carrier will process the claim only after the freight charges are paid. If you accept damaged freight, you should ALWAYS be as concise as possible in noting the specific damage on the delivery receipt.
